Electricity Options
at The Nahiku Treehouse
There are a few options for lighting at The Nahiku Treehouse:
(none of which come with a guarantee)
The
first is a supplied Radio Shack 140 watt 12v to 110v power inverter that
can be plugged into the cigarette lighter of your 4wd vehicle. (Without a 4wd
vehicle, you cannot get close enough to the treehouse to use the power
inverter). This will supply enough electricity to
run the boom box, and supply a small amount of light. There are some Christmas
lights strung throughout the treehouse that can be plugged in for a small
amount of lighting for a short period of time. You need to have a 20 amp
cigarette lighter (most are) to use all 140 watts. With this you may get
one or two hours of electricity depending on the size of your car battery. The
inverter has a low-battery shut-off feature that will make a beeping noise a few
seconds before it turns off the power. (This is to ensure that you do not
completely drain your car-battery.) At that point you must start your car and
recharge your battery. (Tip: You may wish to bring a spare (or two) 20 amp
'pancake' auto fuse with you.)
Electricity option two. There are two battery operated lanterns at the
treehouse. One
is in the bathroom, and, one
is on the table in the living area. These each require 4 D-Cell
batteries to operate. The boom box (CD/Tape player - sorry no reliable radio
stations found thus far, however, it does play CD's and Tapes) requires 6 c-cell batteries to operate. Batteries are
on a B.Y.O.Batteries basis. These lanterns and
radios are supplied on a best efforts basis meaning we check them before you
check in, however, they may break while you are there. It is advisable
to bring your own backup flashlights or lanterns.
There are five solar powered night lights that can be used indoors or
out. Provided they get a full charge during the day, they will provide a small
amount of light in and about the treehouse and deck at night.
Save the best for last option. You might feel that you've come this far
to get away from it all, and that candles and tiki torches
are enough. That's fine, however, a
small flashlight would still be advisable for getting up and down the stairs at
night.
